About CAMP

What is CAMP? The College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) assists students who are migrant or seasonal/temporary farmworkers (or children of such workers) enrolled in their first year of undergraduate studies at colleges and universities. The funding provides academic, financial, and social/health supports to ensure success.

What is I’M³ POWER CAMP Scholars Program? It is a CAMP Program in the Samuel W. and Marilyn C. Seidel School of Education at Salisbury University in Salisbury, Maryland. The I’M³ POWER CAMP Scholars Program provides significant financial supports as well as other educational supports to migrant or seasonal/temporary farmworkers and their families who wish to attend Salisbury University to pursue any major.

Grant Purpose:

Promote access to higher education though educational services and resources.

Grant Objectives:
1. Recruit individuals intent on pursuing any major.
2. Provide CAMP scholars the academic, social/emotional, and financial resources required for college success;
3. Facilitate a family involvement initiative;
4. Engage scholars in 16 high-impact practices to enhance educational success;
5. Maintain contact with scholars and provide follow-up services beyond year one to enhance retention and degree completion, and
6. Maintain a well-trained staff knowledgeable and sensitive to the unique needs of CAMP scholars.
The I’M³ POWER CAMP Scholars Program is Dedicated to:
1. Impacting positive student learning outcomes.
2. Building relationships.
3. Enhancing retention and degree completion.
4. Expanding partnerships with community collaborators In order to generate the following positive outcomes.
  - Supporting career opportunities for migrant and seasonal/temporary farmworkers and their families.
  - Enhancing enrollment and graduation rates of culturally and linguistically diverse Scholars at Salisbury University.

ELIGIBILITY
The following individuals may qualify to be a CAMP scholar and receive significant financial support and services.
1. An individual that has or has an immediate family member that has spent at least 75 days within the past 24 months in seasonal farm work.
  1. A family members may include : spouse, step parent, adoptive parent, foster parent, someone with guardianship, someone that claims the potential CAMP scholar as a dependent on federal income tax returns, or a relative that resides in the same house as the prospective CAMP participants and supports that individual).
  2. Form Work may include: field work, work in a sorting facility, work with the production of poultry or livestock, dairy production, tree cultivation or harvesting, farming of fish, oystering, etc.
2. An individual that has been a part of the Migrant Education Program (MEP).
3. An individual that is in or is eligible for the National Farmworker Jobs Program (NFJP).
4. An individual that has finished an HEP (Higher Education Program) in the past year.
5. An individual that has fewer than 24 college credits that do not include high school transfer credits.
6. An individual that has permanent residency or is a U.S. citizen.
7. An individual that is in need of academic and financial support.

SERVICES
SERVICES PROVIDED TO CAMP I’M³ POWER SCHOLARS AT SALISBURY UNIVERSITY

Services have been created in order to successfully meet the academic, personal, social, emotional, and health and wellness needs of CAMP Scholars.

The following supportive and instructional services will be provided to CAMP Scholars in order to enhance enrollment, persistence, and retention.
- Salisbury University Application subsidies
- Financial scholarships for tuition and housing.
- A cohort model of attendance.
- Dedicated Faculty.
- Tutoring and academic skills-building assistance.
- Transportation to and from campus for commuters.
- A computer lending library
- Textbook lending library
- Educational supplies
- Living stipends for incidental living costs
- Health services and Subsidies.
- Child Subsidies
- Bi-annual one-on-one advising and goal setting sessions.
- Food Subsidies.
- Cultural Immersion Experiences.
- STEM Engagement Fieldtrip.
- Family Involvement Experiences.
- End of year ceremony.
- Monthly meetings with CAMP staff.
- Contact time with community collaborators.
- Fingerprint costs required to participate in local public schools
- Praxis Test prep and testing subsidies.
- Leadership Opportunities
