July 22 -  SU COVID-19 Update from Human Resources

7/22/2020 4:30 p.m.

Faculty and Staff,

As we continue our phased return-to-campus plan, please be aware of the following protocols SU is working to put into place for the fall semester:

Ventilation/Air Filtration

  • The SU Facilities team has thoroughly reviewed the mechanical systems of each building on main campus to ensure that they meet current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) guidelines to maintain a healthy work and learning environment.
  • Mechanical systems have continued to be inspected for proper operation throughout the pandemic, and ventilation rates have been increased and run times extended where possible.
  • While many systems were already equipped with high-efficiency filters, classified as MERV-13, mechanical systems which did not have them but will allow for them are being upgraded. For buildings where it is not possible to install high-efficiency filters, instructional and office spaces with shared occupancy will be equipped with HEPA filtersor the like to remove aerosols from the room.

Thermometers

  • As part of the daily screening process, employees and students will be required to take their temperatures before coming to campus. Information on various thermometers and how to properly take your temperature is available online as a PDF document: SU COVID Faculty & Staff Temperature Check (PDF).

Testing

  • The University is working with Student Health Services, the Wicomico County Health Department and the University Health Planning Team to provide and facilitate COVID-19 testing for all students, faculty and staff.
  • At this time, the University plans to conduct regular surveillance testing for employees and students. Surveillance testing a percentage of the campus population will allow us to monitor trends and number of cases, and begin the isolation and contact tracing process for those who test positive.
  • Student Health Services also will consult and order tests for those with potential exposures.
  • Please see this flow chart: SU COVID-19 Faculty & Staff Screening & Testing (PDF) for information on what happens when you are tested.
  • Additional information on COVID-19 testing will be updated on this webpage.

Contact Tracing

  • The University will work with the Wicomico County Health Department on Contact Tracing.
  • We have a team of trained contact tracers that will work with Student Health Services, Human Resources, Campus Housing and Residence Life, and the University Health Planning Team to identify potential exposures, order tests, begin sanitation protocols, and get students home or into quarantine and/or isolation.

Non-Compliance

  • Students, faculty and staff may report non-compliance on SU’s face mask policy, physical distance guidelines and other COVID-related requirements through the coronavirus webpage. The form also is available online: SU Non-compliance Form.

Tents

  • SU Facilities has ordered a number of tents to provide the ability to hold outdoor activities and events. Tents are available to be reserved through the Conference Services Office.
