Student Opportunities

BEACON graduate assistantship provide students with the opportunity to expand their work experience while completing their graduate studies. Graduate assistants are required to work 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters, during which they receive both a stipend and tuition remission (for up to 18 credit hours per academic year). They also have the opportunity to work during the summer semester and winter semester for a competitive hourly rate. Graduate assistants will be assigned to one or more of BEACON’s ongoing grants and sponsored research projects, and/or to one of the five BEACON initiatives. Graduate assistants will have at least one project for which they are the team leader. They will be required to engage in project management and team management tasks, conduct primary and secondary research, become proficient in at least two of the advanced software platforms used by BEACON, be responsible for all computational analysis for the projects they are assigned, generate reports, meet with clients, and make client and public presentations.

Graduate research associate positions provide graduate students the opportunity to expand their work experience while completing their graduate studies. These positions are hourly positions that require a minimum of 15 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters with the opportunity to work during the summer and winter semesters. Graduate research associates will be assigned to one or more of BEACON’s ongoing grants and sponsored research projects, and/or to one of the five BEACON initiatives. Graduate Assistants will have at least one project for which they are the team leader. Undergraduate research assistant positions offer students the opportunity to be involved in a wide variety of projects. These positions are hourly positions that require a minimum of 15 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters with the opportunity to work during the summer and winter semesters. Undergraduate research assistants will be assigned to one or more of BEACON’s ongoing grants and sponsored research projects and will be required to conduct primary and secondary research, assist with computational analysis, generate reports, and client deliverables. Undergraduate Research Assistants will have the opportunity to assist with client meetings and presentations.

BEACON internships offer undergraduate students the opportunity to fulfill their ABLE internship requirements while working on real-world client projects and research. Internships require a minimum of 10 hours per week for a minimum of 10 weeks and are offered over the spring and fall semesters as well as the summer. Internship availability is based on the project portfolio for the identified semester. Internships that are most often available are in the fields of: Marketing, Management, Economics and Information Systems.
