Applying to the Major

We appreciate your interest in applying to the Professional Teacher Education Program (PTEP) in Early and Elementary Education and look forward to working with you!

Admission Requirements

In order to enroll in professional education program courses, students must meet the following requirements:

  1. Complete and submit the online Professional Teacher Education Program application prior to the semester the candidate wishes to enroll in professional education courses.
  2. Satisfy the basic skills requirement in one of the following two ways:<
    1. Have an SU GPA of 3.0 or above
    2. Have an SU GPA of 2.5 or above and passing scores on the Praxis Core test or another basic skills assessment approved by the Maryland State Department of Education
  3. Have grades of C or above in all courses required for professional program admission.
  4. Complete the minimum number of credit hours required for admission to the program. Consult your advisor for specific program guidelines.
  5. Exhibit and document appropriate professional program candidate dispositions. Professional dispositions are the values, commitments and professional ethics that influence behaviors toward students, families, colleagues and communities and affect student learning, motivation and development as well as the educator’s own professional growth.
