Asian Students of Social Work
Statement Against Anti-Asian Racism and Violence
The Asian Social Worker Association (ASSW) condemns all acts of racism and violence against Asian Americans. Racism, discrimination, and oppression against the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community are not new phenomena in the United States and have impacted Asian immigrants throughout history (i.e., the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act, the Internment of Japanese Americans during WWII). Social issues affecting Asian Americans have not received the level of awareness they deserve. We urge the social work community to actively work to counter anti-Asian racism and violence. We must strive to end oppression, racism, and violence against the AAPI community.
