Our Offices and Services
It takes a lot of people to keep Salisbury University running, growing and beautiful. Here are the offices that make up the Physical Plant and how they help.
We perform preventive maintenance and repair for all campus buildings in all the building trades areas – carpentry, electrical, heating and air conditioning, painting, roofing, masonry and locks and doors. If you need routine repairs in your residence hall, your classroom or your office, please submit an online work request.
Sure, our Horticulture and Grounds Department maintains our nationally accredited 200-plus-acre arboretum, but they also care for all aspects of the campus, from maintaining our beautiful fountains to overseeing trash removal and recycling.
We didn’t get to be a 200-plus-acre campus with over 80 buildings by standing still! Find out more about what we hope to achieve in the future with our Facilities Master Plan.
How do SU’s buildings stay so clean? Next time you notice, be sure to thank our Housekeeping staff! These individuals work diligently day and night – literally – to keep classrooms, offices, residence halls and common areas looking as good as possible.
Have a housekeeping request? Call 410-543-6118. The Housekeeping Office may not be staffed on weekends and after 3:30 p.m. on weekdays. For requests at those times, call University Police at 410-543-6222 and ask them to contact the on-call Housekeeping staff member or supervisor on duty.
SU’s Motor Pool maintains a fleet of clean, safe, well-maintained cars, vans, buses, and maintenance and utility vehicles for official University use. Need a car for an academic conference or a van for a student organization event? Want information on the SU shuttle system? Need options for getting out and about in the community? This is the office to help.
SU’s Support Services and its PIC Operations are the materials management office for campus, from purchasing, moving and storing furniture and equipment to delivering your shipments to providing name tags and Physical Plant uniforms.
Energy and Utility Management at Salisbury University monitors twenty-two sub-meter sites on the Main Campus - primary electric loop; these contribute to the largest energy meter use and costs for the campus. In addition, campus buildings and improved sites spawn the creation of numerous monthly and quarterly utility bills for electric, natural gas, water and sewer services across campus. Campus utility management monitors these sites and vendor invoices, especially for any anomalies, for two simple purposes:
Monitor, reduce and save utility use and costs across Salisbury University locations.
Contribute to Salisbury University’s Sustainability efforts.
This includes efforts to monitor and reduce campus energy (carbon) and water use.
Information on campus efforts to reduce utility and carbon use can be found in the campus Climate Action Plan and SU’s latest Carbon Emissions report on the Campus Office of Sustainability site.
Physical Plant staff will enter a student room or faculty/staff office only if they are responding to an emergency call or have a work order for maintenance to be done in that room or office. Staff will knock on the door and announce their presence by saying, “Maintenance!” If no one answers, they will knock again, identify themselves, then enter the room.
If we are in cooling season and the outside air temperature is below 70 degrees, cooling systems generally are turned off. In heating season, if the outside temperature is above 50 degrees, heating systems generally are turned off. These policies were developed to help conserve energy while providing a comfortable environment for our students.
Please call the Physical Plant Service Center at 410-677-3097 to report any bug activity. The Physical Plant will log the sighting, and the exterminator will respond.
