Outreach/Trainings

The Disability Resource Center is dedicated to our mission to foster accessible and inclusive learning opportunities and environments for students with disabilities at SU. Through interactive learning experiences and facilitated conversations, the AccessAbility Advocate Training Program is designed to promote disability awareness, understanding, acceptance, and inclusion by challenging traditional perceptions of disability and examining common societal barriers.

DRC AccessAbility Advocate Trainings

Student Advocate

Specifically designed for undergraduate and graduate students, clubs, and organizations. Participants will engage in staff and peer-led facilitated conversations, interactive activities, and discussions on foundational topics such as ableism, non-disabled privilege, inclusive language/practices, accessible events/programming, and stigma. Also great for guest lectures!
Staff Advocate

Specifically designed for professional and student staff. This module will focus on the role of disability services in higher education. Participants will engage in facilitated conversations, interactive activities, and discussions on foundational topics such as accessible events/programming, inclusive language, implicit bias, and stigma. Also great for guest lectures!
Faculty Advocate

Specifically designed for new and experienced faculty! This module utilizes case studies, interactive activities, discussion, and Q&A, to promote disability awareness and inclusion through the use of universal design for learning principles and the provision of approved reasonable accommodations/services.
Transition 101

Specifically designed for high school transition staff, prospective students, families, and guardians. This module will equip incoming students and their support systems with vital information essential to creating a seamless transition from high school accommodations (based on the success model) to college accommodations (based on the access model).
