Action Plans and Sanctions

A warning notifies a Student that their actions are inconsistent with the standards of behavior set forth in the Code of Community Standards. A warning has no immediate effect upon a Student’s status at the University. However, once given a warning, Students should expect more severe outcomes to result from any subsequent violations.

Probation notifies a Student that they must avoid any further violations of the Code of Community Standards for a specified period of time and includes the probability of more severe disciplinary sanctions, including suspension or dismissal, if the Student is found in violation of the Code of Community Standards during the probationary period. Students on probation are not in good standing with the University; therefore, certain co-curricular activities may be prohibited to a Student while on probation. A Student will remain on disciplinary probation status, at least, through the date indicated or until the date all assigned sanctions have been completed, whichever occurs later.

A Student who has been suspended from the University may not participate in any University activities, academic or otherwise, for a specific period of time, and will be restricted from all University premises and activities, including University-affiliated housing. A suspended Student who wishes to re-enroll must apply for readmission to the University and must also contact the Office of Student Accountability & Community Standards, who will meet with the Student and determine whether any and all requirements for readmission have been satisfactorily completed. Suspension may be deferred for a specified period of time, typically in the final weeks of the semester, at the Hearing Authority’s discretion. During the period of deferred suspension, the Student is restricted to: a) academic activities, and b) non-academic activities specifically approved by the Office of Community Standards & Integrity. A Student who is found responsible for violating the Code of Community Standards while under deferred suspension will be given immediate Suspension or Dismissal.

A Student who has been dismissed from the University is permanently prohibited from participating in any University activities, academic or otherwise, and will be restricted trespassed) from all University property and University sponsored activities, including University-affiliated housing.

This online course will help students identify goals that will help them make a positive change in their personal alcohol use. The course is individualized for each student and integrates feedback through interaction. There is a 30-day follow-up to measure changes in the student’s attitudes and behavior. This online course provides education about the dangers associated with marijuana use. It aims to motivate change in students who use marijuana. This online course provides awareness of the consequences of prescription drug misuse, opiates, stimulants, sedatives, and ecstasy. Students will receive an e-mail once the course is assigned to them. Alternatively, students may access the Online Other Drugs Education course via this link.

This online course is an intervention program designed to address shoplifting behaviors in students and helps them reflect on their behaviors, consequences, attitudes and beliefs. Students will receive an e-mail once the course is assigned to them. Alternatively, students may access the Online Shoplifting Education course via this link.

This online course provides tools and tips for students to make informed decisions about tobacco use. It also addresses behaviors and awareness of adverse health effects of long-term tobacco use. Students will receive an e-mail once the course is assigned to them. Alternatively, students may access the Online Tobacco Education course via this link.

This online course is an intervention program designed to assist students in recognizing the impact of their behaviors. The course also provides skills training in conflict resolution strategies and methods to diffuse anger. Students will receive an e-mail once the course is assigned to them. Write a Personal Statement as part of the student accountability process. This paper provides you an opportunity to reflect upon your actions leading up to and at the time of the incident, as well as demonstrate the insight you have developed regarding the expectations required of every member of our campus community. You are expected to address all required prompts and meet the standards for format, grammar, style and quality of reflection in order to successfully complete this sanction. You are free to express, respectfully, your agreement or disagreement with what your experience has been in this situation. Please refer to the Personal Statement Guidelines document for additional information. Upon completion, you must submit the statement electronically as a Word Document or PDF to studentconduct@salisbury.edu by the stated deadline.

Write a letter to your parent(s)/guardian(s) notifying them of the incident that resulted in your referral to Student Accountability & Community Standards. This letter provides you an opportunity to reflect upon your actions leading up to and at the time of the incident, as well as demonstrate the insight you have developed regarding the expectations required of every member of our campus community. You are expected to address all required prompts and meet the standards for format, grammar, style and quality of reflection in order to successfully complete this sanction. Meet with the Student Affairs Case Manager to discuss your well-being and the behaviors that resulted in your accountability hearing and finding. Your first meeting should be held by the stated deadline. You must follow any follow up recommendations made by the Case Manager. To schedule your appointment, please contact Tiffany Cox, Case Manager, at TCCOX@salisbury.edu. You must provide her with a Case Manager Referral form at that time. The form is available at LINK. Proof of completion of Wellness Session(s) and follow up recommendations must be submitted to studentconduct@salisbury.edu.

Following an in-depth assessment of their substance use, students will schedule two, one-to-one sessions with a counselor. At the conclusion of these sessions, students may be referred to community providers for more specialized and/or longer-term treatment. You must provide documentation that you have scheduled your initial appointment with the Counseling Center to the Office of Student accountability by [date]. To schedule your appointment, please stop by the Counseling Center in the Guerrieri Student Union, Room 263 in person. You must provide them Counseling Center with a Substance Assessment and Intervention Referral form at that time - make sure to bring one with you. Proof of completion of assessment and recommendations must be submitted to studentconduct@salisbury.edu.

Alternatively, you are permitted to use a counseling provider of your choice, but do so at your own expense. Students not currently registered for classes must complete this requirement with an off-campus provider. The same information release must be submitted and your first appointment must be held by the stated deadline. You must contact the Assistant Dean for Student accountability if you choose to use your own counselor.

Completion of the assigned number of service hours by the stated deadline. You are required to participate in meaningful tasks are of value to the community and benefit you personally. The sanctioned service should address the impact of your behavior on the community and, whenever possible, address the harm caused to others in tangible ways. You must submit a sanctioned service proposal to your Case Administrator by the stated deadline. Please refer to the Sanctioned Service Proposal and Verification forms for additional information.

You are required to reimburse the University, appropriate individuals or organizations for damage, personal injury or misappropriation in the stated amount. If payable to SU, the amount will be billed to your student account and are payable to the Cashier’s Office. If payable to a third party, the amount must be paid in the form of a money order or certified check and delivered to Student Accountability & Community Standards by the stated deadline. Cash restitution will not be accepted. Failure to comply may result in additional disciplinary action and/or legal action may be taken to recover the amount.

Considering your willingness to apologize to the victim/complainant, you may take responsibility for and acknowledge the impact of your behavior and actions on the victim/complainant through an apology letter. The letter of apology must be submitted to the Office of the Students by the stated deadline for review and discussion of possible changes before it is forwarded to the recipient – do not submit the apology letter directly to the victim/complainant. Please refer to the Letter of Apology Guidelines document for additional information. The victim/complainant will be notified of the letter and will determine if and when the apology letter will be accepted. If the victim does not wish to receive the letter, the letter will be kept in the file.

Fine in the amount of $150 for a second Social Host Responsibility violation. The fine is payable to the Cashier’s Office and due immediately upon being posted to your account.
