Experience Campus

At Salisbury University doors are flung wide open – to research, study abroad, internships and hands-on, experiential learning.

SU believes strongly that the opportunities our students seize upon boomerang back into something larger, distinguishing SU graduates from their peers and better equipping them for the future.

All SU students can gain real-world experiences before they graduate. The quality and quantity of these opportunities are exceptional – and we’re committed to providing them to every student.

Study Abroad: Put the world within reach

Go beyond the 21801 zip code! When Salisbury students study abroad, their perspectives change forever. You’ll have opportunities to travel the world as a way to add depth to your knowledge. Through the Janet Dudley-Eshbach Center for International Education, choose from 800+ programs in over 200 countries that will prepare you for a lifetime of exploration. You can study abroad for a semester or try Global Seminars in the summer and winter. Go as a senior or even as a first-year student. In addition to international opportunities, SU has partnerships that allow students to study away and explore different regions of the United States.

I would recommend the Global Experiences program to anyone, no question about it. It got me this job I have now, and it’s definitely going to pay off. It gives you so much to talk about and connect with people over.

Internships: Gain real-world experience

SU’s Perdue School of Business requires applied learning experiences, involves students in sales and entrepreneurship competitions, and helps them with professional development from a career coach. The net result is nearly 100% of business school grads are hired before graduation.

SU education students benefit from SU’s nationally-recognized Professional Development School partnerships, working in dozens of schools across the region. Art students gain first-hand exhibition and internship experience in the Baltimore and Washington, D.C., regions.

Through internships, students earn academic credit, gain first-hand knowledge of workplaces and gain professional skills that put them a step ahead of other graduates. SU Career Services works with students on resumes and networking skills. During job and internship fairs, an expansive network of employers actively recruit students for internships and full-time positions.

My program gave me the ability to apply knowledge practically in any situation. I am indebted to the incredible student-athletes I worked with at SU.

Community Engagement: Give back in service

Community engagement has long been a pillar of an SU education. Students work in the community and serve on councils. They participate in the SU Volunteer Center. They give back to others, working to address food insecurity through Food For the Flock, and other issues like home accessibility and homelessness.

At Salisbury, we rise to challenges and work to build a better tomorrow. SU’s Institute for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement (PACE) supports community engagement, promotes civic dialogue and fosters an expanded understanding of issues related to the public good – all serving to advance student learning, leadership and citizenship.

I gained a wholistic perspective of how local governments work and how communications play a part.

Student Research: Ask bold questions

Salisbury students use GIS technology to support elephant conservation. They explore student political engagement and elementary reading programs. They help link United Nations Association chapter campuses to support global goals.

Here, there is a university-wide commitment to practical research. Research projects across a broad range of disciplines are funded by SU and open to undergraduates, far more than at most other universities. Working alongside outstanding faculty mentors, undergraduates conduct the kind of research usually found in graduate programs. Salisbury students do summer research, showcase their research annually at SU’s Student Research Conference, as well as national conferences and forums. SU has twice hosted the National Conference on Undergraduate Research.

Getting the opportunity to conduct research has enhanced my undergraduate experience. My professors helped me make connections and understand where I want to go in my career. This research is really important to me, because it’ pushing me toward my main goal of improving the lives of wildlife and conservation efforts.
