Maggs Physical Activities Center is the hub of Salisbury University Athletics. Named for the first male physical education faculty member Benn Maggs, the facility is home to five of the University’s varsity teams, Athletic Department offices, and academic offices and classrooms. General locker rooms are located on the main floor. It also offers a host of workout options:
Equipment Checkout: Maggs provides a variety of equipment including Basketball, Footballs, Soccer Balls, Jump Ropes, even Racquetball equipment that can be checked out by facility users with a GullCard during operational hours.
Strength Room: Ready to get your lift going? Located in Room 160 on the first floor of Maggs, the strength room contains a wide variety of free weights, dumbbells, bench press, including/decline benches, squat racks, platforms, cable cross-over, lat machine, and smith machine. Users are responsible for their own possessions. Be sure to warm up and stretch properly before exercising and always use spotters and collars. And be courteous to others, re-rack all weights, bars and benches when finished.
Fitness Room: Head upstairs in Maggs to get in some cardio work. The fitness room offers numerous treadmills, elliptical machines, steppers, spin bikes along with fitness balls.
Main Gym: You can get on the same hardwood floor as the varsity athletes in the main gym of Maggs, which is the home court to Sea Gull men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball teams. It also plays host to numerous classes, activities, events and conferences throughout the year. The arena can seat 2,300 spectators with bleachers newly installed in 2018, and features a press box with wireless internet.
Auxiliary Gym: On the second floor of Maggs, the auxiliary gym offers the largest indoor recreation space on campus, with three full-sized basketball courts. The area is primarily used for classes, team practices and recreation.
Maggs Natatorium (Pool): Hit the water with open or lap swim in the natatorium. Salisbury’s home to men’s and women’s varsity swimming is also available to the campus community. Learn more about SU’s Aquatics Programs, including hours, membership and classes.
Racquetball Courts: Three racquetball courts on Maggs’ main floor offer a great opportunity. The courts are only available during Maggs’ operational hours and can be reserved in one-hour increments in the Campus Recreation Office. Eye guards should always be worn when playing. Racquetball equipment can be checked out with a current SU Gull Card at the equipment check out room, just outside the racquetball courts.
Climbing Wall: See Maggs from new heights by attacking the climbing wall in the Maggs facility. The vertical wall in the main gym is open at scheduled times during which a certified climber is present to aid and supervise users. Sign-ups are accessible on the Online Request Center. Beginners are welcome, no climbing experience is needed. All climbers will sign the assumption of risk form in the climbing wall notebook and follow all directions given by Maggs staff.
