Foundation Courses

In order to begin work on the master's degree requirements, the following foundation courses must be completed with a grade of C or better prior to the first semester in which the first 600-level course is taken:

ACCT 201 Principles of Accounting I
ECON 211 Principles of Microeconomics
or
ECON 150 Principles of Economics
FINA 311 Financial Management
INFO 326 Production and Operations Management

Any foundation course may be waived if the student has completed an undergraduate or graduate survey course with similar coverage with a grade of C or better. A waiver exam may be taken to validate an undergraduate course that does not meet the grade requirement, or when the student has acquired the knowledge covered in a core course without having earned academic credit. Students may take a waiver exam with permission of the graduate program director.

Application Requirements

Upon entering graduate courses, faculty teaching within the M.B.A. program assume graduate students are knowledgeable in subject matter related to the required foundation courses above. Additionally, graduate students are expected to possess the following basic skills:

Quantitative skills: Students need a knowledge of algebra and basic calculus.
Verbal skills: The ability to collect relevant information, organize thoughts and communicate them clearly.
Computer skills: Students should display competence in word processing and spreadsheets.
Information systems literacy: A student should be familiar with information technologies and information systems applications.

Admission to the program requires applicants to complete an Application for Graduate Admission at Salisbury University – visit Graduate School Admissions for details – and the following program-specific requirements:

Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) score sent to institution #6F2-SX-08 for part-time students OR 6F2-SX-78 for full-time students. A minimum GMAT score of 400 is required. Applicants who have already taken the GRE revised General Test may supply this score in lieu of the GMAT. The report must be sent directly from the Educational Testing Service. A waiver of the GMAT/GRE requirement is an option for students who:
- have an advanced degree with a 3.0 GPA or higher based on a 4.0 scale
- have a bachelor’s degree with a GPA of 3.00 or higher based on a 4.0 scale
Three letters of professional or academic recommendation from individuals qualified to judge the applicant’s ability to do graduate work in business.
Current resume.
An essay stating reasons that pursuing a master’s degree will meet personal, professional, and academic goals and what is unique about the applicant's candidacy (maximum two pages, double-spaced).

U.S. Resident Students Additional Admission Requirements
In addition to the above requirements, U.S. resident students must complete the following additional requirements:
- Submit Residency Form (for State of Maryland residents only)
- Official transcripts from each college or university you attended. (Applicants with coursework on file at SU do not need to provide official transcripts for SU credit hours). A minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5 is required. Transcripts should be sent to:

International Students Additional Admission Requirements
In addition to the above requirements, international students should refer to the instructions for Application for International Students and must complete the following additional requirements:
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam scores with a 550 PBT (paper-based) or a 79 IBT (internet-based) minimum needed, or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam score with a 6.5 minimum required. There are no exceptions for non-native English speakers to be admitted without a test of their English proficiency.
- Foreign transcripts must be submitted in their original version, in English, with a GPA listed on a 4.0 scale and with credits comparable to SU credits. Otherwise, a professional course-by-course evaluation of all foreign academic transcripts is required. This professional evaluation will determine your academic level within the American system of education. The prospective student will be required to pay the cost associated with obtaining the evaluation (with the cost determined by agency). Agencies that hold membership with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services Inc. are recognized by Maryland State Department of Education. Chinese applicants are required to provide an evaluation from the China Academic Degree and Graduate Education Development Center.
Minimum Standard for Admission
The minimum standard for consideration for admission is the attainment of a total score of at least 1,000 points based on the following formula:
- 200 x overall GPA (on a 4.0 scale) + GMAT score
OR
- The attainment of a total score of at least 1,050 points based on the following formula:
- 200 x upper-division GPA-last 60 credit hours + GMAT score.
Points may be added to the above totals for qualified work experience at a rate of 10 points per year for a maximum of 50 total points. Qualified/relevant work experiences is defined at the middle management level with supervisory/budget responsibilities or higher. Work experience will be reviewed by the M.B.A. committee for admissions decisions.
Non-Degree Program
Students who have not completed the required foundation courses listed above for the M.B.A. program may begin as a non-degree student without being formally admitted to the M.B.A. program. As a non-degree student:
- You may not be eligible for certain types of financial aid;
- You may only register during the "Open Enrollment" time period; and
- You may only register for a maximum of six credit hours or two classes.
This option is not applicable for M.B.A. courses (any 600-level M.B.A. course). Non-degree students are not permitted to take M.B.A. 600-level courses.
Standards of Progression
Fully admitted M.B.A. students must:
- Complete an approved program of a minimum of 30 semester hours.
- Complete all M.B.A. requirements within seven years of the end of the semester in which M.B.A. coursework began.
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 in all 600-level courses with no grade less than C and no more than six credit hours below B. Any course repeated, must be repeated at Salisbury University.
- Maintain continuous enrollment by completing at least one course every calendar year. Students who do not comply with this requirement must re-apply for graduate studies by completing a graduate re-application form.
