Short Biography

Establishing a positive, intellectually open, and creative culture in the classroom, faculty offices, and within student organizations is central to a philosophy of effective education. When an educational culture is stimulating, rigorous, and supportive, we create the conditions not only for meaningful learning, but for genuine personal and professional growth. By encouraging students to engage the world through careful reason, empathetic conviction, and authentic civility, we help cultivate enduring habits of persistence, integrity, and honor.

These aspirations are ambitious, but they are far from abstract. One of the greatest privileges of academic life is remaining connected with students long after graduation—whether supporting them as they build purposeful careers, pursue graduate study, or confront new intellectual and personal challenges. Across all of these interactions, I strive to reinforce a realization that extends beyond disciplinary content alone: education is not merely the transmission of knowledge, but the transformation of lives through challenge, encouragement, and genuine human engagement. It is perhaps for this reason that I derive such profound fulfillment from working with students, whether in the classroom, through collaborative research, or in outreach and community engagement.
