Bio

Dr. Xiaohong (Sophie) Wang is a professor of Computer Science in Henson School of Science and Technology at Salisbury University. She has established herself as an outstanding educator, mentor, researcher, and academic leader. She is the recipient of 2025 Distinguished Faculty of the Year Award and 2020 Salisbury University Alumni Association Faculty Appreciation Award. Dr. Wang has over twenty years of experience in supporting student learning through innovative and adaptive teaching methods based on various learning styles. She has taught a wide range of courses and spearheaded many curriculum development including five new courses. She has served as the mentor for over 100 capstone software engineering projects for real world clients. Dr. Wang has served as as lead PI and co-PI for many research grants from NSF, NOAA, FEMA, Maryland Center for Computing Education, Maryland Sea Grant and advised undergraduate research projects and honors theses. From 2021 to 2025, she served as the inaugural chair of the Computer Science Department and has demonstrated her strong leadership skills in leading an new academic department and its curriculum innovation in the age of AI.
