Information Literacy Partner of the Month
February/March 2023
Congratulations to Dr. David Burns of the Department of Communication, who is the SU Libraries’ Information Literacy Partner of the Month for February-March!
In nominating Dr. Burns, Jennifer Piegols Pulsney, University Archivist and Special Collections Librarian, wrote:
David brought his Sports Reporting class into the Nabb Center to learn about primary sources within the University Archives. His students will create a "Centennial Minute" documentary in which they will use primary sources to create a short documentary profile on a student, coach, team, or Hall of Famer from SU's sports community. The projects will be aired on local television and the final products donated to the University Archives. It's exciting to see such a rich collection of the University Archives used in a creative way by our students while also ultimately contributing to the Archive itself.
It is for this willingness to creatively work with librarians to help students engage with information sources that we have chosen Dr. Burns as our IL Partner of the Month for February-March. I am sure I am not the only one looking forward to seeing the documentaries.
In addition to recognizing Dr. Burns on the SU Libraries’ website and social media, we also will purchase a book in a field of his choice to be added to the Libraries’ collection in his honor.
