Library Events

Two book sales are held annually for the benefit of the campus and local communities. Look for the sales during Homecoming Week (fall) and National Library Week (spring). Additional dates may be added depending upon available inventory.

During the month of May each year, we give library patrons the opportunity to waive a limited amount of active overdue fines from their account by donating non-perishable food items.  For each item you donate, we will waive $2 in fines, up to a maximum of $10.  All donations benefit the Salisbury University food pantry, Food for the Flock.

Banned Books Week is an annual observance event that celebrates the freedom to read and takes place at the end of September/early October. Books showcased during Banned Books Week have all been banned or challenged in some capacity from schools and libraries for what is considered to be “offensive” content. Each year, SU Libraries plans displays and events to engage the campus community in a discussion surrounding censorship and the freedom to read.

This annual drive to collect pet food and supplies for local animal shelters takes place November through mid-December to coincide with the holiday spirit of giving. The local community is invited to participate in this campus-wide event.

“Destress Before the Tests” is held leading up to and during the final exam period, providing students an opportunity to unwind at the end of the semester. The Destress event includes two components—the Relaxation Station and the Finals Fairy. The Relaxation Station includes free hot drinks and short activities to distract and relax students, such as jigsaw puzzles, coloring books, Lego competitions and yoga. The Finals Fairy leaves small prizes for students throughout the Guerrieri Academic Commons and Curriculum Resource Center, with clues to find those prizes posted to the Libraries’ social media accounts.

Visit the Destress Before the Tests Page

Held in September, this all-day intense event provides an opportunity for the graduate students to learn about the wide array of services and resources available to them from across the campus. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks are provided throughout the day. Attendees may also win door prizes at each session.

Partnering with the LGBTQ+ Alliance, the SU Libraries holds a clothing drive and Walk-in Closet in honor of Transgender Awareness month. While the 2-day walk-in closet event is open and welcoming to all, its primary purpose is to provide free gender-affirming clothing to those in need.
