Poet Thom Ward Kicks-Off Writers-on-the-Shore Series Oct. 7
SALISBURY, MD--Thom Ward, whose poetry has appeared in Atlantic Monthly, Christian Science Monitor, American Literary Review, Chelsea and other journals, reads from his work on Thursday, October 7, at 8 p.m. in the Montgomery Room in the Commons at Salisbury State University. Wards reading opens this falls Writers-on-the-Shore series, sponsored by the SSU English Department. Admission is free and the public is invited.
Ward's first book,Small Boat With Oars of a Different Size, appeared recently from Carnegie Mellon University Press. A chapbook, TumbleKid, was the winner of the 1998 Devil's Millhopper Poetry Contest and will be published by the University of South Carolina-Aiken later this year. His works have been included in numerous anthologies, including The Bedford Introduction to Literature.
The recipient of a Fellowship in Creative Writing from the Constance Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts and an appointee to the Literature Panel of the New York State Council on the Arts, Ward lives in Palmyra, NY, and serves as editor/development director for BOA Editions Ltd. He teaches writing workshops at Roberts Wesleyan College and through the Writers and Books Literary Center.
