SU Dance Company Presents 29th Annual Fall Student Showcase
SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University students and faculty bring their work to the stage during the SU Dance Company’s 29th Fall Student Showcase.
Directed by Helen Myers, the concert is Thursday-Sunday, November 1-4, in Holloway Hall Auditorium. Curtain is 8 p.m., 2 p.m. Sunday.
The annual showcase features guest choreography by Jessica Hindman, SU dance instructor. Hindman is the owner and director of the Eastern Shore Dance Academy in Cambridge, MD. She earned a teaching certification through Dance Educators of America and has choreographed for the SU Dance Company since 2008. Her dance, set to music by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, is a fast-paced, energetic romp.
The concert also includes seven pieces choreographed and performed by student company members. Contemporary dance is well represented.
Danielle Malley’s dance is set to “To Build a Home” by the Cinematic Orchestra featuring Patrick Watson. This quiet, yet powerful work has moments of quiet reflection juxtaposed with powerful full-bodied movements. Dancers connect in sculptural moments inspired by the idea of “home” and what it means when one loses that home.
Arielle Weinstein presents a piece evoking a strong emotional quality as shifting groupings of dancers explore the idea of finding freedom from the difficulties of life. Other new student works include choreographies by Rachel Lynch, Rebekah Noonan, Hannah Prouse, Colby Potts, Willow Saunders and Dana Schneider.
Admission is $12; $9 for SU faculty, staff and alumni, and seniors age 60-plus; $5 for non-SU students with ID; $3 for SU Students with Gull Card. Children under 10 are admitted free. Reservations are not required.
Tickets are available online in advance at www.salisbury.edu/academic-offices/liberal-arts/music-theatre-and-dance and at the door 30 minutes before curtain.
