SU's Wagner, Anderson celebrate ‘Delmarva’s Songster' Dale Wimbrow
SALISBURY, MD---Known as “Delmarva’s Songster” Peter Dale Wimbrow was a songwriter, singer, ukulele player and national broadcast personality when the radio industry was in its infancy.
With the “voice of an angel,” he enlisted in World War I and suffered a life-threatening mustard gas injury that was a significant factor in his career path.
After spending more than a year researching Wimbrow, studying and transcribing songs that once played on Victrolas across the Shore, including the iconic “Good Old Eastern Shore,” Drs. Diana Wagner of the Education Leadership Department and Louise Anderson of the Music, Theatre and Dance Department present a lecture and performance focusing on Wimbrow’s Eastern Shore songs 6:30 p.m. Thursday, October 24, in the Worcester Room of Salisbury University’s Commons.
Descendants of Wimbrow’s family will be present, and a very rare instrument designed by Wimbrow will be on display.
Admission is free and the public is invited. Free parking is available in the Guerrieri Student Union parking lot. Light refreshments will follow.
