PACE students with elected officials

SALISBURY, MD---Some 17 students from Salisbury University’s Institute for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement (PACE) met with Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, and were recognized on the Senate and House of Delegates floors by Senator Mary Beth Carozza and Delegate Carl Anderton, during a recent visit to Annapolis.

They also met with Eastern Shore legislative representatives, including delegates Wayne Hartman and Johnny Mautz, and SU alumni serving at the state capital, including House Majority Whip Talmadge Branch. In addition, they received a tour and overview of the Maryland Comptroller’s Office from chief of staff and SU alumnus Len Foxwell.

The students are participants in PACE’s Presidential Citizen Scholars or Nonprofit Leadership Alliance (NLA) programs.

“These programs help students develop skills associated with public service, including direct community engagement and non-profit leadership, or elected office,” said Dr. Alexander Pope, PACE co-director.

Pope joined the students, along with PACE lecturer Lisa Howard; SU NLA director Carolina Bown; and Eli Modlin, SU deputy chief of staff and director of government and community relations. Additional photos from the day are available on the State of Maryland's Flickr gallery.
