Nabb Center 'Out of the Box' Exhibit Opens August 26
SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History and Culture has thousands of holdings in its vast collections.
Tucked away in boxes and on shelves in a climate-controlled environment, many items are used by researchers, but only a fraction have ever been displayed.
“Out of the Box: The Archives at the Nabb Research Center” places many of these items on public view for the first time. The exhibit opens Monday, August 26, and continues through Tuesday, December 17, in the center’s G. Ray Thompson Gallery in the Patricia R. Guerrieri Academic Commons.
Anne Turkos, University of Maryland, College Park, archivist emerita, and Cynthia Byrd, executive director of the Julia A. Purnell Museum in Snow Hill, MD, will participate in a discussion o f“Archives in the 21st Century: The Challenge of Preserving the Past” 6 p.m. Thursday, September 19, in the Guerrieri Academic Commons Assembly Hall.
Collections on display include examples from the center’s local history archives, SU archives and special collections, representing groups and individuals worldwide.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday, 10 a.m.-4:30- p.m. Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, closed Sundays and holidays.
