SU Celebrates Recent Faculty Achievements
SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University is celebrating the following recent faculty successes:
Davis Earns $3,000 ASCP Foundation Grant
Dr. Diane Davis, chair of the Medical Laboratory Science Program, received a $3,000 American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Foundation Program Enhancement Grant to help replace clinical-grade microscopes in the program’s teaching laboratories.
Last replaced in 1992, these microscopes are used by hematology and microbiology students after graduating from the student-grade microscopes used during their first year in the program. In the past three decades, parts for the current clinical-grade microscopes are becoming scarce, making it more practical and cost-efficient to replace them.
Davis’ grant application was selected from several hundred received by the ASCP Foundation this funding cycle.
Emerson Named BAP Outstanding Faculty Advisor
Dr. David Emerson, associate professor of accounting and legal studies, was named one of four 2021 Outstanding Faculty Advisors for the Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) international accounting, finance and information systems honor society.
Emerson advises SU’s Iota Pi chapter of BAP. The chapter’s accomplishments in the past year included assisting the Humane Society of Wicomico County and helping Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County build a ramp for a local wheelchair-bound resident.
The chapter also raised a record amount at its annual golf tournament fundraiser, topping the previous record by more than 30 percent. A 50/50 drawing held during the tournament raised some $1,200 for the family of Cpl. Keith Heacook, a Delmar, MD/DE, police officer killed in the line of duty earlier this year.
Shipper Presents at Beyster Symposium
Dr. Frank Shipper, professor emeritus of management, was invited to present on his body of work at the annual Beyster Symposium at the University of California, San Diego’s Beyster Institute. “Professor Shipper has received several research fellowships from the Institute over the years and has distinguished himself nationally as the most academically productive fellow in terms of publications and the global impact for his work on employee ownership,” said Dr. Joseph Blasi, J. Robert Beyster Distinguished Professor and director of the Institute for the Study of Employee Ownership and Profit Sharing at Rutgers University. “He has earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues. We honored him to mark our appreciation for his intellectual leadership and unending mentoring of younger fellows.”
Shipper has specialized in studying how to build high-performing, employee-owned enterprises and the how they, their employees, and the planet benefit from doing so. His research has been presented multiple times at The Beyster Symposium, The Business Fights Poverty conference at the University of Oxford, England, The International Rendanheyi Model Forum in Qingdao, China, The Mid-Year Fellows Workshop in Honor of Louis O. Kelso at Rutgers University, and other venues.
His research also has been referenced by national media, including MSNBC and The Wall Street Journal, and featured in the Rutgers School of Management and Labor Relations’ Curriculum Library for Employee Ownership, the largest global online library on employee ownership, among other notable outlets.
