SU's PACE Hosts "Democracy Across the Disciplines" Series

SALISBURY, MD---The Institute for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement (PACE) at Salisbury University hosts the lecture series “Democracy Across the Disciplines: Controversy and Resilience” 7-8:30 p.m. Mondays throughout the semester in Conway Hall Room 153.

Topics and speakers are:

  • September 12: “Controversy and Resilience in Democracy” with Dr. Alexander Pope, secondary and physical education, and PACE
  • September 19: “Banned Books Week: Censorship and the ACT-UP Model” with Tina Plottel, research and instructional services
  • September 26: “The Unpaid Internship: Should You Take It?” with Dr. David Yoon, management
  • October 3: “Should We Teach Critical Race Theory to Children?” with Dr. Christina Cammarano, philosophy
  • October 10: “Money Laundering and Secrecy: How Professionals, Including Lawyers and CPAs, Assist the Kremlin and Russian Oligarchs” with David Weber, accounting
  • October 17: “Justice-Oriented Citizenship: Strategies for Self-Care and Resiliency Building” with Dr. James Forte, social work
  • October 24: “Who is Part of the Public Good? Community Ethics Enfranchisement and the REACH Initiative” with Dr. Timothy Stock, philosophy
  • October 31: “Translation, Migration and the Spread of Democratic Values” with Dr. Andrew Martino, Glenda Chatham and Robert G. Clarke Honors College
  • November 7: “Midterm Elections Panel” with political science faculty
  • November 14: “Self-Care in Health Care: Compassion Fatigue of Nurses” with Sedonna Brown, School of Nursing
  • November 21: “Manipulating the Truth: The Myth That Vaccines Cause Autism” with Dr. Jennifer Nyland, biological sciences
  • November 28: “Gender Discrimination at the Beach: Topless Sunbathing in Ocean City” with Dr. Mike Koval, business law
  • December 5: “The Continuing Call of Citizenship” with Dr. Maarten Pereboom, Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts

Admission is free and the public is invited. The series also is offered as a one-credit course, with paid tuition and fees. Those planning to park on campus must register in advance for a free parking pass.
