SU Hosts Lecture on Disaster Relief in Pakistan
SALISBURY, MD---Dr. Mohammad Shafiuddin Khan discusses recovery from natural disasters in Pakistan and the inherent inequality in access to relief during “Floods in Pakistan: Climate Change or Man-made Disaster, Relief Amidst Inequality” 7 p.m. Friday, March 31, in the Worcester Room of Salisbury University’s Commons Building.
The 2005 Kashmir earthquake, catastrophic flood events of 2010 and 2022 and this year’s national power outage in Pakistan exposes the devasting effects of natural disasters. They also lay bare the unequal vulnerability built into societies and the discriminatory relief efforts that follow. In this lecture Khan discusses his experiences as a UN disaster relief coordinator for 20 years and his lifetime advocacy work against inequality.
Khan has decades of social justice experience as an international disaster relief coordinator with United Nations High Commission for Refugees and is a regular contributor to the All Pakistan Women’s Association.
Admission is free and the public is invited. Those planning to park on campus must register in advance for a free parking pass.
