Delmarva Public Media Earns 10 Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association Awards

SALISBURY, MD---When it comes to radio news series, in-depth reporting, specialty reporting, public affairs and commentary, Delmarva Public Media (DPM) is No. 1 on Delmarva, according to the Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association.

The organization recently presented DPM with first-place awards in those categories in the Radio II/Non-Metro category during its 2024 convention. Three-station public radio partnership between Salisbury University and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore is comprised of WSCL 89.5 FM and WSDL 90.7 FM in Salisbury and WESM 91.3 FM in Princess Anne, MD.

The accolades add to DPM’s long history of award-winning news coverage. This year’s honors included:

• Outstanding News Series, first place – Don Rush, news director: “Downtown Development”
• Outstanding Documentary/In-Depth Reporting, first place – Don Rush: “Catholic Priest Scandal”
• Best Specialty Reporting, first place – Bryan Russo, production and operations director: “In Your Neighborhood”
• Outstanding Public Affairs, first place – Bryan Russo: “Buckingham: To Build or Not to Build?”
• Outstanding Editorial or Commentary, first place – Dr. Michael O’Loughlin: “Indictment and a Movement”
• Outstanding Editorial or Commentary, second place – Dr. Michael O’Loughlin: “Ukraine Anniversary”
• Outstanding Use of Sound, second place – Don Rush: “Pride Parade”
• Outstanding Talk Show, second place – Bryan Russo: “Pay It Forward”
• Outstanding Serious Feature, second place – Don Rush: “Tubman: Beacon of Hope”
• Outstanding Light Feature, second place – Bryan Russo: “Ricky Skaggs’ Appearance on Eastern Shore”

“The AP awards are always a great way for us to take a moment to celebrate the work that we’ve done over the past year, and I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished with our small news team, freelance and student journalists”, said Russo. “Congratulations to Don and Michael and to all the winners from the other media organizations and we look forward to continuing the work of covering the news and region in a way that public radio listeners have always relied on.”
