SU Joins College Cost Transparency Initiative

by SU Public Relations

SALISBURY, MD---At Salisbury University, campus leaders believe prospective students should know exactly how much their education will cost.

SU recently took a large step toward reconfirming that belief by joining the College Cost Transparency Initiative, a cohort of higher education associations and institutions dedicated to promoting transparency in higher education costs.

“We frequently hear from prospective students and their parents that determining the actual cost of attending a college or university is a complicated and difficult-to-understand process,” said Allen Koehler, SU associate vice president of enrollment management. “At Salisbury, we don’t inflate tuition only to temper it with seemingly large scholarships that cover only a fraction of the price, and we don’t hit families with surprise fees once the student is admitted.

“Our process is straightforward, and we are proud to be accepted among the other colleges and universities in the College Cost Transparency Initiative with likeminded values and dedication.”

Since 2018, SU has included an easy-to-locate link at the top of its homepage, directing prospective students to resources regarding cost of attendance. Net price calculators on the site for both first-year and transfer students make determining actual cost easy. The site also provides simple-to-understand information about SU tuition, fees and other costs, such as housing and meals, further removing the guesswork from determining affordability.

In addition, SU’s website provides easy-to-follow information about financial aid and scholarships that can help students further defray their costs.

These informative tools and data are in line with the College Cost Transparency Initiative’s core tenets, which prioritize transparent, understandable financial models to help families make the best choice for their student’s education. The initiative is managed by the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators and sponsored by a grant from the Strada Education Foundation.

In recognition of its acceptance into the initiative, SU recently added a college cost transparency page to its website, outlining the University’s commitment in this area.
