Film at Fulton Series Returns to SU This Fall

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts hosts this fall’s “Film at Fulton” series 3 p.m. select Sundays in the Herman van Apeldoorn Film Center, Fulton Hall Room 111.

A panel discussion with experts and enthusiasts follows each screening. Films include:

• September 8 – Argentina, 1985: In the mid-1980s, the Argentinian people are suffering under the ruthless reign of a brutal military dictatorship. Determined to improve the livelihoods of their countrymen, a team of lawyers risks potentially deadly consequences to confront the nation’s oppressors. In the words of Guy Lodge (Variety), this is “a people’s film about people’s justice, balancing tear-jerking historical catharsis with touches of droll domestic comedy.”
• October 6 – El Norte: Brother and sister Enrique and Rosa flee persecution at home in Guatemala and journey north, through Mexico to the U.S., with the dream of starting a new life. It’s a story that happens every day, but until Gregory Nava’s groundbreaking El Norte (The North), the personal travails of immigrants crossing the border to America typically had not been depicted in the movies with such urgent humanism.
• November 3 – Tótem: In a bustling Mexican household, 7-year-old Sol is swept up in a whirlwind of preparations for her terminally ill father’s birthday party. As the day goes on, Sol and her family begin to understand the gravity of the celebration. Director Lila Avilés orchestrates a dynamic ensemble cast in this warm, funny and emotional study of the ways humans cope with grief.
