Atzingers Present Voice, Piano Recital Friday, April 2

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University applied voice professor Brenda Atzinger and her husband, Christopher, present a joint voice and piano recital 7 p.m. Friday, April 2, in the Great Hall of Holloway Hall. Soprano Brenda Atzinger made her European recital debut in 2003 in Toulouse and Carcassonne, France. Her New York City debut last year was at Carnegie-Weill Hall with the La Gesse Foundation. She also performed the role of Inez in Il Trovatore with the Baltimore Opera Company. This year, she has performed as part of the concert series at Monticello and will sing Mozart’s Missa Brevis with the Prince George’s Choral Society in May. She has received a Graduate Performance Diploma from The Peabody Conservatory under the direction of Phyllis Bryn-Julson. Her recent orchestral engagements include performances of Honegger’s King David with the Glens Falls Symphony in New York and Poulenc’s Gloria with the Dickinson College-Community Orchestra in Pennsylvania. Her operatic credits include the roles of Tytania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Countess Almaviva in The Marriage of Figaro. She has performed with the Lake George Opera Company and the Opera Company of Mid-Michigan. Christopher Atzinger was a gold medal winner at the 50th annual Nina Plant Wideman International Piano Competition. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, has been heard on WFMT radio in Chicago and was a guest artist with the Shreveport Symphony and Jackson Symphony Orchestra in Michigan. His European debut was in Toulouse and Carcassonne, France, in conjunction with the La Gesse Foundation. A candidate for the Doctorate of Musical Arts in piano performance at the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University studying under Julian Martin, he has received honors from the National Society of Arts and Letters and Sydney Wright Memorial Accompaniment Competition among others. Most recently he won the Premio Cittá di Ispica at the Ibla Grand Prize Competition in Ragusa-Ibla, Italy, with special recognition for his performance of music by Samuel Barber.
