Colorful Life of the Rev. Manship Recalled at Nabb Lecture October 14

SALISBURY, MD---The Rev. Andrew Manship (1825-1892) was a native of the Eastern Shore who became an ordained Methodist minister, author, publisher, savvy businessman and roaming evangelist. His 1857 book, Thirteen Years in the Itinerancy, is still an important source for local and regional history.

The Rev. Joseph DiPaolo recalls Manship’s remarkable and colorful life during the presentation “To Your Tents, O Israel: The Life of Reverend Andrew Manship, Holy Entrepreneur,” 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, at the Edward H. Nabb Research Center at Salisbury University. The center is located in SU’s East Campus Complex at the corner of Wayne and Power streets.

DiPaolo was ordained as a deacon in 1988 and an elder in 1990. He has served as a pastor and preacher in four area congregations since 1985. Throughout his career, he has remained active in ecumenical and community affairs, serving on numerous boards and committees.  Recently he began teaching as an adjunct professor at the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Philadelphia.

In addition to his ministerial work, DiPaolo is an avid amateur historian, contributing articles on local and church history to regional and national publications. Currently, he is the editor of the historical journal Annals of Eastern Pennsylvania.
