'Culture to Culture' Pottery Exhibit at SU Through February 29

SALISBURY, MD---When art is collected in the private sector, works can sometimes go hidden behind closed doors for years—sometimes even decades.

Salisbury University brings together some of these rarely seen pieces during “Culture to Culture: Pottery From Private Collections and the SU Permanent Collection” through Friday, February 29, in the lobby of Fulton Hall.

SU Art Department faculty Marie Cavallaro curates the international show. Many of the works have been acquired from exhibitions and visiting artist’s workshops Cavallaro has arranged and organized at SU. A member of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts member, she has extensive experience as a curator of pottery and ceramics exhibitions.

The display also showcases the works of Michael Hough, a visiting artist-in-residence sponsored by the Art Department. Hough teaches at Bridgewater College in Virginia. He presents an artist’s lecture 7 p.m. Thursday, April 3, in Fulton Hall Room 111.

Co-sponsored by University Galleries and the Art Department, the exhibit and lecture are free and the public is invited.

The Clay Guild of the Eastern Shore sponsors a one-day hands-on workshop with Hough at SU from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, April 5. The workshop is open to Clay Guild Members and non-members.
