Cumbia All-Stars Inaugurate SU Hispanic Heritage Month Festival Tuesday, September 22
SALISBURY, MD---The Cumbia All Stars inaugurate Salisbury University’s 2015 Hispanic Heritage Month Festival 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 22, in Holloway Hall Auditorium.
Originating along Colombia’s Caribbean coast and in Panama, with cultural roots in indigenous populations, Cumbia is a South American musical tradition with bold guitar and funky beats that meld to create a distinct sound all its own.
The Cumbia All Stars is comprised of musicians from the bands of psychedelic Peruvian Cumbia, who recreate the sound they helped popularize during the 1970s. The ensemble has completed three international tours, performing at festivals throughout the world.
Sponsored by the Cultural Affairs Office, admission is free and the public is invited. This engagement is made possible through Southern Exposure: Performing Arts of Latin America, a program of the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
