'Discover SU' Series Explores New Downtown Art Gallery September 21

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s Center for Extended and Lifelong Learning (CELL) invites community members to get to know the campus better through “Discover SU,” a series of tours highlighting the University’s offerings and services.

This falls tours begin Thursday, September 21, as guests learn about the SU Art Galleries (SUAG) Downtown and its new Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibit “The Way We Worked.” Participants will meet at the gallery, in the Plaza Gallery Building. SUAG Director Elizabeth Kauffman leads the tour.

Drawing from photographs at the National Archives and SU’s Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History and Culture, the exhibit traces the changes that have affected the workforce and work environments in the past 150 years. This includes the growth of manufacturing and increased use of technology.

Developed by the National Archives, the exhibit is part of “Museum on Main Street,” a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and Maryland Humanities. It is supported, in part, by the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore in collaboration with the City of Salisbury, Nabb Center, Furnace Town Living Heritage Museum, Julia A. Purnell Museum and other community partners.

• Thursday, October 19 – Sustainability initiatives with Wayne Shelton, campus sutainability and environmental safety director
• Thursday, November 16 – Nabb Center with Dr. Creston Long, director
• Thursday, December 14 – History of Holloway Hall with Ian Post, University archivist
