Dr. Michael Scott Earns GIS Award
SALISBURY, MD---When it comes to geographic information systems (GIS), Dr. Michael Scott of Salisbury University’s Geography Department is more than just a dot on the map.
The Advisory Committee of the Towson University GIS (TUGIS) Conference recently presented Scott with the Award for Outstanding Contribution to GIS in Maryland.
“For me, this award is more about the dedication of my team in the Eastern Shore Regional GIS Cooperative (ESRGC) and the commitment of the MidShore Regional Council and the Tri-County Council of the Lower Eastern Shore,” Scott said.
Scott has been involved in a number of Maryland GIS initiatives, including the establishment of the ESRGC in 2004 and leading an effort to expand the participation in the Maryland State Geographic Information Coordination Committee (MSGIC) in 2000. Since arriving at SU, Scott has initiated and/or participated in over 75 funded GIS projects totaling over $1.5 million.
