ESHEC Open House to Feature SU Representatives

SALISBURY, MD---Representatives from Salisbury University are available during the Eastern Shore Higher Education Center’s (ESHEC) open house, 4:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 20, to meet with prospective students interested in programs offered at the center.

SU offers programs in elementary education (B.S.), educational leadership (M.Ed.), social work (B.A.S.W. and M.S.W.) and business (M.B.A.) at the center, located on the campus of Chesapeake College in Wye Mills, MD.

Dr. Amy Stephens Meekins represents the Elementary Education Program, designed for students who have an Associate of Arts in Teaching or who have met the entry requirements for admission to SU’s Professional Teacher Education Program. Using a cohort format, students enroll in methods classes offered at the center and complete leveled internships at mid/upper shore Professional Development Schools. With the exception of required minor courses, students enrolled in the cohort program may take all of their program courses at the ESHEC. Classes are typically offered two days per week with additional school visitation requirements. The program is fully accredited by the National Council of Accreditation for Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). Dr. Douglas DeWitt represents the Educational Leadership Program, which allows students to earn an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership or Administrator I certification if they already possess a master’s degree. Classes offered include traditional, hybrid, on-line and distance learning formats. The Educational Leadership Program is fully NCATE and MSDE accredited. Cindy Wingate, LCSW-C, represents SU’s satellite social work programs, which permit students to complete their bachelor’s or master’s degrees in their local communities via a combination of in-person, interactive live video and online instruction. Programs are designed with the working student in mind with flexible scheduling. The B.A.S.W. Program is for students who have an associate’s degree or 60 credits toward a bachelor’s degree.

The M.S.W. Program is open to students who have bachelor’s degrees with a minimum 3.0 GPA from an accredited college or university. If a student has a recent bachelor’s degree in social work and a minimum 3.2 GPA in their last 60 hours, he or she may be eligible for the advanced standing program, which permits qualified students to complete their M.S.W. in 31 hours. Yvonne Downie represents the M.B.A. Program, accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International. It is the only accredited center for business education and development on the Eastern Shore. Classes are offered both in the classroom and online. To be accepted into the M.B.A. Program, a student should have completed (or waived through equivalent coursework) necessary foundation courses.
