Environmental Activist Workshop is Thursday, October 23

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s Environmental Students Association holds an Environmental Activist Workshop 2-6 p.m. Thursday, October 23, in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri University Center.

The workshop is a teach-in on becoming informed, inspired and active on the current issues facing Earth.  The first part, from 2-3:15p.m., features speaker Dave Karpf, the Sierra Club’s trainings vice president and former national director of the Sierra Student Coalition. He addresses the topic “Why we should care and what we can do for the environment.”

Kevin Lyons, director of procurement and contracting at Rutgers University, also speaks. He is a leader in working for sustainability and provides an in-depth look into the Tallories Declaration for sustainability and how to obtain it on campus.

Part two of the workshop, from 3:30-5:30 p.m., features a series of trainings on activist skills including campaign planning, building a strong organization, working with the media and lobbying.

The United Greens, Amnesty International, Peace Alliance of the Lower Shore, Phalanx, Outdoor Club, TRUTH and Yoga Club sponsor the workshop.
