SALISBURY, MD---Four seniors from Salisbury University’s Respiratory Therapy Program were chosen by the Maryland/District of Columbia Society for Respiratory Care to receive the 2012 Karrie Lipscomb Achievement Award.

Katelyn Cass of Jarretsville, MD, and Kurt Strudwick of Kingston, Jamaica, attend the main Salisbury campus, and Fatima Granados of Silver Spring, MD, and Renadin Siagat of Burtonsville, MD, are enrolled in SU’s program at the Universities at Shady Grove.

“We congratulate these students on their achievement,” said Dr. Robert Joyner, program director and associate dean of SU’s Richard A. Henson School of Science and Technology.

Each year students from all two- and four-year respiratory therapy programs in Maryland and D.C. who have a GPA of 3.0 or higher are asked to submit an essay on why they are the best candidate for the award. In addition, students must submit a recommendation from a program faculty member.

Winners are invited to attend the MD/DC Society for Respiratory Care’s Officer Installation and Award Banquet, held in January. Pictured at that event (from left) are Granados, Siagat and Cass, along with Strudwick (far right).
