Fun Day 2006--Explore SU Schedule of Events

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University hosts Fun Day 2006--Explore SU 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, September 16. The following is a schedule of locations and events throughout campus.

The Fun Day Green
* Explore: Inflatable Games courtesy of Ace Hardware and SU Residence Life featuring moonbounces of Finding Nemo, SpongeBob and more!
* Explore: Obstacle Course presented by the SGA. Race to the finish line, but it won’t be easy getting past this crazy, fun-filled course.
* Explore: Field Hockey (11 a.m.-1 p.m.) with the three-time defending national champions who will show you how to play like a Sea Gull.
* Explore: Tattoos with the SU Cheer Squad and the SU Step Squad. Bring your Fun Day tattoos to this table for some neat body art.
* Explore: Photos with Sammy the Sea Gull (11 a.m.-1 p.m.) snapped by the Alumni House staff. Smile for your picture with the feathery Salisbury mascot!
* Explore: SU Hayride driven by the Salisbury Grounds Crew. Hop on board our farm wagon and take a leisurely ride around campus. We make stops at Fun Day attractions!
* Explore: Refreshments supplied by Campus Crusade. Enjoy some free and healthy snacks that will keep you going all Fun Day long.
* Explore: Dunking Booth brought to you by Residence Life. Throw a ball, hit the target and drop somebody into the tank. It’s a blast!
* Explore: WICO/Cat Country Ice Cream Truck. (11 a.m.-1 p.m.) Free ice cream while it lasts and tunes with DJ Dixie.
* Explore: Safety (First Aid) with the Medical Careers Society. If you get a scrape or cut, visit this table for some sympathy and quick first aid.
* Explore: Give-aways provided by Uno’s. See the friendly people of Uno’s to pick up children’s food coupons and more.
* Explore: Wong Chinese Lion Dancers (1 p.m.) sponsored by SU’s Cultural Affairs Office. The Wong Chinese Lion Dancers perform the traditional southern Chinese Lion Dance. This style of Lion Dance has always been passed on from one generation to the next, from teacher to student. Unlike other forms of Lion Dance, the southern style has remained intact and has never been combined with others. It requires a great deal of physical strength and stamina as its movements are forceful and the equipment heavy. Practitioners must undergo rigorous training to develop these skills and to learn the many movements used to make the lion appear alive and strong. They must also learn to play the instruments used to accompany the lion and to direct its movements during the dance. Under the direction of Sifu Raymond Wong, the Wong Chinese Lion Dancers have become the foremost Lion Dance team in United States.

Henson Science Hall
* Explore: Homemade Binoculars with help from Phi Mu. Construct your own pair of binoculars from household supplies. “See” for yourself. (Room 101)
* Explore: Fire & Ice (11:30 a.m.) by the Chemistry Department. A crowd pleaser complete with explosions and homemade ice cream. Only one show, so get there early for the best seats! (Room 103)
* Explore: Candy Sushi (1:30 p.m.) and Napkin Folding (2 p.m.) taught in two sessions by Dining Services. First, the craze of sushi meets the sweetness of candy. Then, learn how to fold regular dinner settings into designs that will impress your friends. (Room 103)
* Explore: M & M Math. Does your bag of M&M’s have enough green ones? Or maybe too many? Come by and count candy to check the quality of the bag. Once you see how your bag of M&M’s compares, you get to eat them. (Room 107)
* Explore: Your Name in Arabic presented by the Muslim Student Association. Produce geometric designs found in Islamic art and write your name using the Arabic alphabet. (Room 109)
* Explore: Political Games with the College Democrats. Play pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey and patriotic coloring activities. (Room 111)
* Explore: Sand Art brought to you by Active Children’s Education. Design your own sand masterpieces to take home and decorate your room. (Room 113)
* Explore: Paper Bears from the German Club. Decorate your paper cut-out bear with all sorts of different materials. They are not too cuddly, but they are really fun! (Room 115)
* Explore: The Amazing SimMan with the Nursing Department. He breathes. He talks. Listen to his heart, lungs and more. Enjoy all kinds of Halloween-themed games and science activities. (Room 123)
* Explore: Fingerprinting with the Salisbury Police. Get fingerprinted and see what helps cops find the bad guys. (Room 148)
* Explore: Your Home from above mapped by the Geographic Society. Find your home from 20,000 feet above the Earth. Are we really that small? (Room 153)
* Explore: Junior Police Badges and more by Campus Police. Learn about seat belt and bike safety from the guys who know and get your own police badge. (Hallway)
* Explore: Breathing Games supervised by Respiratory Therapy. Learn how the lungs work and more with bubbles and balloons to help demonstrate. (Lounge)
* Explore: Gull Cards sponsored by the Gull Card Office. Pose for your photo and become an honorary Sea Gull. Say Sammy! (Lounge)
* Explore: History displayed by the Nabb Research Center. Learn about the rich and unique history in the Delmarva area. (Room 211)
* Explore: Recycling with United Greens. Visit this activity to help the environment and find out what you can and cannot recycle. They’ll show you how to start a recycling program in your own house. (Room 211)
* Explore: Our Solar System (11 a.m.-Noon & 1-2 p.m.) explained by the Physics Department. Discover things you never knew about our universe—like is Pluto a planet?—with visual effects and discussion. (Room 337)
* Explore: Kids Fashion Show under the direction of “Pashion for Fashion.” Parents have your cameras ready for pictures of your little aspiring models and princesses as we use fashion accessories to dress-up and dazzle. (Room 341)

Maggs Gym
* Explore: Basketball (11 a.m.-1 p.m.) with the Men’s Basketball Team. Shoot around with the big boys. Maybe you’ll be that tall someday! (main gym center court)
* Explore: Exercise (11 a.m.-1 p.m.) instructed by the Women’s Basketball Team. Work with the girls on speed, strength and agility exercises. You’ll get to use training equipment like parachutes and crazy balls that SU’s athletes use to get in shape! (main gym side court)
* Explore: Swimming. (Noon-3 p.m.) The Maggs Pool is open to the public with a lifeguard on duty. Bring your bathing suit!
* Explore: SU Concession Stand by Dining Services. Grab some lunch or just a snack from the goodies available for purchase.
* Explore: Pizza! Pick up a slice of Papa John’s Pizza, sponsored by Alpha Sigma Phi.

Caruthers Hall
* Explore: Television directed by Television Services. Take a tour of a real TV production studio and see how it works. You may even get to be on TV!
* Explore: Radio with help from WSCL and the Financial Management Association. Tour the radio station and speak into the microphone. We can record your voice so you can listen to yourself on the airwaves.

Fulton Hall
* Explore: Pottery coached by the Art Department. Take this once in a lifetime opportunity to see how pottery is made and possibly create your own piece of art. (Room 127)
* Explore: Glass Blowing demonstrated by the Art Department. Watch the Salisbury artists heat things up to produce beautiful glass creations. (Room 129 - Can be viewed in the courtyard adjacent to the studio near the tennis courts)
* Explore: Acting On and Off Stage conducted by Sophanes. Participate in theatre acting games and design a stage mask in the dressing room. Action! (Black Box Theatre)

Red Square
* Explore: Sammy Putt-Putt designed by Event Services. Play a round of miniature golf with family or friends. Can you make a hole-in-one?
* Explore: Bean Bag Toss with Catholic Campus Ministries. Come test your throwing skills as you boogey to the beat. It’s fun and easy!
* Explore: Philosophical Questions courtesy of the Philosophy Society. Get answers to all of your toughest questions—like “Should I go to the inflatables or play putt-putt next?”
* Explore: Soap Carving with the Student Organization for Activity Planning (SOAP). Use safe tools to carve cars, animals and more from ordinary bars of soap.
* Explore: Bubble Tricks sponsored by the Wesley Foundation. Create bubbles big enough to cover your whole body. Try not to float away!

The Mall
* Explore: Wildlife presented by the Salisbury Zoo. Get up close and personal with some of the most interesting animals at the zoo.
* Explore: Aeronautics conducted by the Outdoor Club. Build, design and decorate your paper airplane to battle the wind. Test your plane against the instructors in distance contests.
* Explore: Hula Hooping with the Relay For Life crew. Shake and shimmy, but don’t let the hula hoop hit the ground. How long can you go?
* Explore: Golf taught by the Golf Club. Practice your swing and test your accuracy by playing target golf at this activity. Hit the target and win a prize!
* Explore: Drum Music demonstrated by the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra. Ever want to be in a band? Feel the beat by watching, listening and practicing on live drums with family and friends.
* Explore: Wood Carving sponsored by the Ward Museum. Kids can carve too! Try your hand at carving using child-safe tools. There are games and balloons as well as an easy art activity. Come fly with us!
* Explore: Buried Treasure with Kappa Delta Pi. Bring out your inner pirate and dig up hidden treasure in a giant sandbox.
* Explore: Face Painting by the Organization of Latin American Students. Sit down for fun kids face painting.
* Explore: Disc Golf—golf you play with a Frisbee! Play our three-hole mini disc golf course and maybe throw some disc golf horseshoes.
* Explore: The Watering Hole sponsored by Zeta Tau Alpha. Grab free Fun Day water to energize the body for more exploring.
* Explore: The K-9 Cop (2 p.m.) from the Wicomico County Sheriff ’s Department. Don’t be scared, this dog is trained to attack criminals. The police will show us how a crime dog is so smart and useful. Only one show, get there early!

Blackwell Library
* Explore: Library Activities. Join the library staff for a fun-filled celebration including face painting, storytelling, book raffle and finding interesting children’s sites on the Internet.
* Explore: Books and Puppets with the Education Club. Listen to stories featuring Dora the Explorer books and then create puppets of the characters to take home.
