Islam Awareness Week at SU November 29-December 3

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University inaugurates its Islam Awareness Week noon Monday, November 29, at the Commons and Guerrieri University Center. Information tables in the Commons from noon-6 p.m. feature Islamic books and artwork with names in Arabic. Stations in the Guerrieri Center include Middle Eastern pastries and samosas for sale. Drop boxes are also available for collection of coats for the homeless. The tables are available Tuesday-Thursday from noon-3 p.m. Tuesday features two showings of a PBS documentary Muhammad: Legacy of a Prophet 10 a.m.-noon in Caruthers Hall Auditorium and 7-9 p.m. in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri Center. Other events include lectures Wednesday-Thursday by Islam scholar Hassanain Rajabali of the Tawheed Institute, who leads a Muslim prayer service noon Friday, December 3, in the Reading Room of the Guerrieri Center. The topic is “The Importance of Being God-Conscious.” A reception, sponsored by the Office of Student Affairs, follows from 2-4 p.m. in the Fireside Lounge. Wednesday’s lecture, held 7-9 p.m. in Holloway Hall Auditorium, is “Islam Denounces Terrorism.” Two lectures take place 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Thursday. The first, “Science in Islam,” is in Henson Science Hall, Room 243. The second, “Judaism/Christianity/Islam—what is the Common Ground?” is in the Great Hall of Holloway Hall.
