Jarvis Earns Internship With Governor's Summer Program

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University junior Owen Jarvis has been selected as an intern through the Maryland Governor’s Summer Internship Program (GSIP). The highly competitive program, which pays a $2,500 stipend, introduces college students to the unique challenges and rewards of working within Maryland state government. A resident of Salisbury, formerly of Havre De Grace, MD, and Bel Air, MD, Jarvis is a member of the College Democrats and a staff writer for SU’s student newspaper, The Flyer. “I’m very interested in politics,” he said. “This is a very elite internship offer.” The Dean’s List student is a member of the Delta Psi chapter of the Lamda Iota Tau English Honors Society. He graduated from John Carroll High School in Bel Air in 2000. For 10 weeks beginning Monday, June 7, Jarvis and other GSIP interns will: Work on substantive projects with senior-level public administrators and policy makers in departments or policy areas that closely correspond with each intern's field of study or career interests. Duties often include attending meetings, drafting correspondence, tracking legislation and researching policy options. Develop policy papers that address significant issues facing Maryland today. These papers, researched in teams, are presented to the governor and other senior staff members at the end of the program.
