Jennifer Layton Appointed New SBDC Training Coordinator

SALISBURY, MD---Jennifer Layton recently joined the staff of the Maryland Small Business Development Center, Eastern Region, at Salisbury University as training coordinator. Layton earned her Bachelor of Science in marketing from the University of Maryland College Park, where she participated in the IBM Total Quality program. She has used her skills working in collections, quality assurance, process improvement teams and purchasing. She recently moved to the Eastern Shore with her family from Kentucky where she held positions as the training coordinator for the Portman Learning Center and corporate purchasing manager for Portman Equipment, an industrial equipment dealer. At Portman she managed and facilitated training for both internal and external customers, assisted in developing internal quality initiatives and managed relationships with suppliers. “We welcome Jennifer’s breadth of knowledge from her corporate experience and her personal small business experience on her family farm to assist current and aspiring entrepreneurs on the Eastern Shore,” said John Hickman, regional director of the SBDC. An outreach of SU’s Franklin P. Perdue School of Business, the SBDC serves the citizens of Maryland in improving the success of their small businesses through low cost training, no fee consulting and research. The eastern region serves the Eastern Shore of Maryland through its offices at SU, Chesapeake College and the Dorchester Chamber of Commerce.
