LSCCRC Earns Re-Accreditation Award

SALISBURY, MD---The Lower Shore Child Care Resource Center (LSCCRC) at Salisbury University and 12 other regional centers that make up the Maryland Child Care Resource Network recently earned the Quality Assurance Award, administered by the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies.

Representing recertification in meeting standards for best practices in child care, quality assurance covers all components of resource center operation, including child care referral for parents and child development training for child care providers.

These centers help parents locate child care options that suit their budget, their working hours, and their preference for either a child care center or home-based child care. Resource centers also may help parents learn how to evaluate the quality of care.

“High-quality child care contributes to early learning and school readiness. We work very hard to promote quality child care throughout our community,” said Karen Goldman, executive director of the center.

“Today only 68 percent of the state’s children arrive at kindergarten with the basic skills they need to succeed in school. Child care resource centers help create and promote high quality child care by providing training for child care staff and by educating parents about what to look for in a child care program. When children receive quality preschool experiences, they learn skills necessary to succeed in school and later in life.”

The Maryland Child Care Resource Network is funded by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). The network operates under the auspices of Maryland Committee for Children, a nonprofit organization that is an advocate for young children in Maryland and their families.
