'Lunatic Farmer' Joel Salatin Speaks at SU Saturday, March 8

SALISBURY, MD---The New York Times has called Joel Salatin “Virginia’s most multifaceted agrarian since Thomas Jefferson [and] the high priest of the pasture.”

On Saturday, March 8, the self-described environmentalist, capitalist and “lunatic farmer” shares his knowledge at Salisbury University during “An Evening with Joel Salatin.” His presentation is 7 p.m. in Perdue Hall’s Bennett Family Auditorium.

The bestselling author of eight books, including Everything I Want to Do Is Illegal: War Stories from the Local Food Front, Salatin is a third-generation farmer in the Shenandoah Valley. His 550-acre farm, Polyface, gained national prominence when featured in Michael Pollan’s New York Times bestseller The Omnivore’s Dilemma: a Natural History of Four Meals and the award-winning documentary Food, Inc.

Polyface also has been written about in National Geographic, Smithsonian Magazine and Gourmet. News anchor Peter Jennings profiled Salatin on ABC World News’ Lives of the 20th Century series.

His appearance at SU is sponsored by the Environmental Studies Department and Eastern Shore Regional Library. Admission is free and the public is invited.
