SALISBURY, MD---Maryland Senator Jamie Raskin speaks on campaign finance at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, in Teacher Education and Technology Center Room 179 at Salisbury University.
Raskin’s presentation includes information on the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2010 Citizens United decision, which struck down a portion of the 2004 McCain-Feingold Act that prohibited for-profit and not-for-profit corporations and unions from broadcasting electioneering communications.
Raskin serves Maryland’s 20th District in Montgomery County. The Washington Post has described him as the Maryland Senate’s “authority on constitutional issues.” He is a professor of constitutional law at American University’s Washington College of Law and director of its Program on Law and Government. He is also director of that university’s Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project.
He has authored several books, including Overruling Democracy: The Supreme Court Versus the American People and We the Students, in which he analyzes how Supreme Court decisions have affected students in the United States.
