Pi Gamma Mu Earns National Roll of Distinction Honors

class=""MsoNormal"">SALISBURY, MD---Dean Fafoutis and Dr. Clara L. Small, history professors in the Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts at Salisbury University, recently attended the Pi Gamma Mu Triennial Convention in Nashville, where SU’s Maryland Gamma Chapter earned the Roll of Distinction, the highest honor to be bestowed upon an active chapter.

class=""MsoNormal"">Pi Gamma Mu is the international honor society in the social sciences. The triennial is held every three years so the international members may meet with the board of trustees and other members of the organization. Through the triennial, students have the opportunity to present papers at an international conference.

class=""MsoNormal"">This marked the sixth time in seven years SU’s chapter was presented with the Roll of Distinction. Since the chapter’s inception in 1982 and chartering in 1983, it has also earned the Roll of Merit, the second highest award, three times.  In 2000, the chapter earned the International Award for Service for collecting more than 140 boxes of food, clothing, dental supplies, blankets and other items for flood victims in eastern North Carolina.

class=""MsoNormal"">The president and vice president of the chapter for the 2004-05 academic year were Jamie Bonser and Christy Weisner, respectively. The advisors were Drs. Richard Bowler, Michael Lewis, Melanie Perreault and Clara L. Small.

class=""MsoNormal"">Fafoutis is the editor of International Social Science Review (ISSR), the official journal of Pi Gamma Mu, which is housed in SU’s History Department.
