Political Analyst Larry Sabato Speaks at SU October 11

SALISBURY, MD---“He’s the Mark McGwire of political analysis.” That’s the way The Washington Post characterized Dr. Larry Sabato, founder and director of the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics. Fox News Channel has dubbed him “America’s favorite political scientist.” On October 11 at 3 p.m. in Caruthers Hall Auditorium, Sabato, currently working on two books on Election 2004, brings his “crystal ball” to Salisbury University to share his insider’s perspective and to help students and faculty sort out the issues. What makes Larry Sabato such a popular speaker is his ability to bridge the gap between the ivory tower of academe and the real world of politics. Dr. Timothy O’Rourke, dean of the Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts and a former colleague expressed it this way: “Dr. Sabato combines scholarly depth and objectivity with an insider’s understanding of campaigns, media coverage and polling; he is unsurpassed as an incisive commentator on the state of American politics.” Dr. Harry Basehart—co-director of SU’s Institute for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement (PACE), which is sponsoring the talk—remarked: “In an election year, everyone wants Larry Sabato on their campus. Thanks to Dr. O’Rourke we have a real coup and an entertaining afternoon to look forward to.”  Winner of numerous kudos, including the University of Virginia’s highest honor, the Thomas Jefferson Award, Larry Sabato can be seen regularly on all the major news networks and such shows as Chris Matthews’ Hardball and John McLaughlin’s One on One.  His best-known book, Feeding Frenzy: Attack Journalism and American Politics, made those phrases part of the American political lexicon. Dr. Sabato’s lecture is open to the public and free of charge. A reception will follow in the Social Room of Holloway Hall.
