Registration Open for Inaugural Classical Guitar Festival at SU
SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University hosts its inaugural Classical Guitar Festival Saturday, April 4. The festival offers participants the chance to play in a variety of settings from master classes to competitions to Festival Ensembles. They also will hear a performance by Peabody guitarist Zane Forshee, and parents may learn about classical guitar. Activities are designed for all ages and abilities.
Registration and check-in are 9:30-10 a.m. in the Great Hall of Holloway Hall. A warm up with finger aerobics is 10-10:30 a.m. From 10:30-11:15 a.m. participants will be divided into three groups: a workshop for beginners, a master class for intermediate and advanced players and the first information session for parents.
The competition follows from 11:15 a.m.-noon. Participants in two age groups (12 and under and 13 and over) will perform selections of their choice. Cash prizes and D’Addario guitar products will be awarded to winners.
In the afternoon the three groups will divide again from 12:45-1:45 p.m. for ensemble rehearsals and another parent information session.
The festival concludes with a concert by Zane Forshee, as well as performances by the Festival Ensembles. Forshee has led a varied musical life as a soloist and chamber musician. In addition to his busy performing schedule, he is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts at the Peabody Conservatory under the tutelage of Julian Gray.
Registration is $15 for participants and $10 for parents which includes lunch, or $10 for participants and $5 for parents without lunch. Lunch is served 12-12:45 p.m. in the Great Hall. Pre-registration is encouraged and ends April 1. Participants may register at the door but cannot be provided lunch. For more information contact
