Retired USAF Surgeon General Roudebush Speaks at SU Thursday, April 26

SALISBURY, MD---Lieutenant General James G. Roudebush, retired surgeon general of the U.S. Air Force, speaks at Salisbury University 4 p.m. Thursday, April 26, in Henson Science Hall Room 243.

He discusses “Air Force Medicine: Making a Difference at Home and Deployed.”

Roudebush joined the air force in 1975 after earning his M.D. from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. He completed residency training in family practice at Wright-Patterson Air Force Medical Center, Ohio, in 1978, and aerospace medicine at Brooks Air Force Base, Texas, in 1984. He commanded a wing clinic and wing hospital before becoming deputy commander of the U.S. Air Force Material Command Human Systems Center.

The lieutenant general served as command surgeon for the U.S. Central Command, Pacific air forces, U.S. Transportation Command and USAF Headquarters Air Mobility Command prior to his appointment as deputy surgeon general, then surgeon general, of the U.S. Air Force.

As surgeon general, Roudebush advised the air force’s secretary and chief of staff, and the U.S. assistant secretary of defense for health affairs on matters pertaining to the medical aspects of the air expeditionary force. He also served as functional manager of the USAF Medical Service.

In this capacity, he had the authority to commit resources worldwide, to make decisions affecting the delivery of medical services and to develop plans, programs and procedures to support global medical service missions. He oversaw more than 42,000 people assigned to 74 medical facilities worldwide.
