SU Celebrates Homecoming Weekend Nov. 4-6

HomecomingSALISBURY, MD---From a student-led block party to special dinners and reunions, Salisbury University’s 2011 Homecoming Weekend is packed with excitement.

New this year is a pre-Homecoming football game barbecue at Sea Gull Stadium on Saturday, November 5, starting at 10:30 a.m. for all alumni. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 10 and under. Tickets include barbecue, sides and two beverages (ID may be required). Children’s games and activities will be provided.

Events begin Thursday, November 3, with the annual faculty emeriti and retired staff luncheon from noon-2 p.m. in the Bistro of the Commons. (Admission to the luncheon is by invitation only.)

Events continue Friday, November 4, with a Varsity Club-sponsored golf tournament at 10 a.m. at Nutters Crossing Golf Course. Entry fee is $70 per player, $250 per team. Pre-registration is required.

The Career Services Office hosts an alumni science panel at 3 p.m. that day in Henson Science Hall Room 103. Alumni William Lincourt of GlaxoSmithKline, Inc., and Robert Shackelford of Agilent Technologies join Dr. Tom Jones, retired SU provost and former dean of the Richard A. Henson School of Science and Technology, to discuss careers available for science majors.

The Residence Hall Association’s annual powderpuff football game is 3:30 p.m. on the Holloway Hall Lawn.

A Taste of the Chesapeake dinner is 4:30-7:30 p.m. in the Commons. Cost is $10.88, $6.60 for children ages 5 and under.

The SU Athletics Hall of Fame inducts three new members during its annual banquet 6 p.m. in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri University Center. They are: Jen Mezzadra Exelby (’01 lacrosse), Rebecca Mitchell Agoglia (’01 swimming) and April Harned (’01 softball). J. Michael Scarborough (’76) receives the inaugural Hall of Fame Award of Excellence for the honor he has brought to SU since graduation. Admission is $30, $25 for past inductees. Pre-registration is required.

Saturday events begin with tours of SU’s renovated Quad residence halls and the new Sea Gull Square residence-retail complex from 9-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m., with tours of the University’s new Perdue Hall at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Open houses throughout the day include the Alumni House from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.; the Admissions House, Biological Sciences Department (Henson Science Hall Room 243), and Geography and Geosciences Department (Henson Science Hall Room 159) from 10 a.m.-noon; and the Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History and Culture from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

A block party sponsored by the Student Government Association, with inflatables provided by the Student Organization for Activity Planning, is 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Intramural Fields.

A luncheon for alumni graduating prior to 1967 is 11 a.m. in the Worcester Room of the Commons. The class of 1961 is honored on its 50th anniversary. Admission is $15, free for Class of ’61 members, and pre-registration is required. The classes of 1931, 1936, 1941, 1946, 1951, 1956 and 1966 will be recognized, as well.

The Sea Gulls host St. John Fisher College (NY), during this year’s Homecoming football game at noon. Admission is $5, $3 for non-SU students, $2 for children 12 and under. SU ID holders receive one ticket free. The SU Pep Band plays during the game.

The Untouchables Dance Club performs in Henson Science Hall Plaza at 3 p.m. as sports fans make their way back to main campus from the football game. The Multicultural Student Services Office hosts a post-game jazz social in the Gull’s Nest of the Guerrieri University Center from 4:30-7 p.m., featuring 2am Music.

University Dining Services sponsors a Flavors of Fall dinner from 4:30-7:30 p.m. in the Commons. Admission is $10.88, $6.60 for children 5 and under.

• 12:30-2 p.m. – Class of 1956 reunion, home of Clint Bradway. By invitation only.
• 3-5 p.m. – Residence life reunion, Sea Gull Square. Admission: $15, $7.50 children 12 and under. Pre-registration required.
• 4-6 p.m. – Armed services reunion, Social Room and Great Hall of Holloway Hall Admission: $10. Pre-registration required.
• 4-6 p.m. – Class of 2001 reunion, Adam’s the Place for Ribs. Admission: $20, including two beverages and light hors d’oeuvres. Pre-registration encouraged.
• 5-8 p.m. – Lambda Society Rainbow Reunion – Bellavance Honors House. Admission: $15, $7.50 for children 12 and under. Pre-registration required.
• 6-8 p.m. – Class of 1976 reunion, Alumni House. Admission: $15. By invitation only.

Throughout Homecoming, University Galleries presents the free exhibit “Snapshots: Contemporary Photographs by Kenneth Basile” in the University Gallery of Fulton Hall. Gallery hours during Homecoming are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday-Friday, noon-4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday.

Blackwell Library holds its annual book sale throughout Homecoming Weekend. The SU Bookstore also is open for Sea Gull shopping. In addition, SU has the opportunity to host CAC title games in field hockey, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball on Saturday, November 5.
