SU-Community Chorus Performs 'Nelson Mass' April 21

SALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury University-Community Chorus performs the Missa in Angustiis “Nelson Mass” in D Minor by Joseph Haydn with members of the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, in Holloway Hall Auditoruim. “We are fortunate to have the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra collaborate on this symphonic mass,” said Dr. William Folger, director of choral activities at SU. “The Missa in Angustiis ‘Nelson Mass’ is the largest of Haydn’s masses.  The audience will enjoy spectacular florid soprano solos interspersed with solo quartet writing integrated into joyful choruses combined with an orchestration of sparkling string passages and trumpet fanfares.” The chorus is comprised of 20 members of the Salisbury community, singing with three SU representatives. “I am very pleased to be conducting the University-Community Chorus.  My vision is to see the chorus grow in numbers each semester with increased participation of community members, SU faculty, administration, staff and students,” Folger said. “The Greater Salisbury Community, inclusive of the University, will benefit greatly from an ensemble dedicated to performing the choral masterworks.” Chorus members include sopranos Debra Clark, Kathleen Hayne, Ann J. Northam, Carrie Ramsdon, Anne Marie Ruby, Carole Sipe, Polly Stewart, Elisabeth Walker and Frances Flory; altos Anne Cuomo, Karen Gabriszeski, Lynda Hinton, Nadine Jackson, Yvonne Lyles and Joana Weaver; tenors George Hayne, Bryan Horikami, Edgar Isaacs and David Pollock; and basses John Allen, Jim Eaton, Paul Stimson and Peter Stucki. Susan Zimmer is rehearsal pianist. The chorus continues to accept new members year-round.
