SU Dance Company Presents Annual Concert April 27-30

SALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury University Dance Company presents its annual Spring Concert in celebration of National Dance Week 8 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, April 27-30, in Holloway Hall Auditorium. This popular production features works by guest artists, resident faculty and student choreographers.  On Friday and Saturday only, in a return engagement following their popular appearance last fall, the Hip Hop Kids from Salisbury Urban Ministries perform.   “Ode to a Butterfly” by Kathryn Cardy is a lighthearted romp with fast and furious petite allegro technique to music by Chris Thile and bluegrass group Nickel Creek. Emotional expression is the focus of “I Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” by returning guest artist Dylan Pearce. “All Woman” by Erin Vitalos-Crist is the jazz dance finale. Artistic director Victoria Hutchinson reconstructs Peter Madden’s “Flocking” with humorous twists that include aviator helmets and Swiss sun goggles. “Higher Ground” by faculty member Jennifer Livingston is a fusion of Broadway and rhythm styles of tap dance. “Joy,” a colorful lyric work by junior Laura Plitt, is the adjudicated winner of the 2004 Fall Showcase presented in conjunction with the fifth annual SU Research Conference. Admission for the one-hour performance is $8 for adults, $6 for senior citizens, teens, and SU alumni. Children under 12 and SU ID holders are admitted free. Reservations are not required. Tickets are available only at the door 30 minutes before curtain. The concert benefits the Tsunami Orphans Relief Fund, which provides long term relief and assistance through food, clothes, education grants, medical expenses, counseling and other needs.
