SU Dance Company Presents Spring Concert Apr. 21-23

Spring ConcertSALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury University Dance Company’s annual Spring Concert, directed by Mary Norton, offers a mix of dance styles choreographed by guest artists, faculty, alumni and students.

The hour-long program features contemporary, modern, jazz and hip hop techniques. Performance are Thursday-Sunday, April 20-23, in Holloway Hall Auditorium. Curtain is 8 p.m., 2 p.m. Sunday.

Guest choreographer Alice Howes returns to present “Devinere,” a modern work choreographed to the music of Ludovigo Einaudi. Howes, whose choreography has received awards at the American College Dance Festival, holds an M.A. in dance from American University and an M.F.A. in dance from Sam Houston State University.

Four contemporary works are featured, including pieces by former company members Katie Erdman-Harrison and Daniella Celia. Harrison’s “Hello You Beautiful Thing” is a lighthearted dance to music by Jason Mraz. “Rise,” a lyrical contemporary dance choreographed by Celia, is performed to music by Audra Day.

Returning guest artist London Owen presents “Reign,” set to music by Ramin Djawadi. SU company members Corrinne Duvall and Marie Hils reprise “Coffee,” originally presented at the 2016 Fall Student Showcase.

“Downtown” a dance by local guest artist Staci Alexander, is an energetic hip hop piece set to a song by Macklemore. The program concludes with a jazz finale by dance faculty member Jessica Hindman. “Work,” featuring music by Brittney Spears, brings the program to an upbeat close.

Admission is $12; $9 for seniors, teens and SU alumni; free for children under 12. SU ID holders are admitted free for Thursday evening’s performance. Tickets may be purchased online and are available at the door beginning one hour before each performance. Reservations are not required.
